Empowering Carbon Offset for the NHS

Our Mission

The NHS produces over 5% of the UK’s greenhouse gases and spends over £50 million each year on Carbon Permits. Our mission is to empower the NHS long term carbon targets by working in collaboration with NHS Suppliers, Providers and Patients to ensure that our NHS can continue to deliver clinical excellence with a Carbon friendly footprint.

The importance of carbon offsetting is fundamental for a sustainable future globally.

The Kifaru Reforestation Centre enables us to establish:

• Which species of tree to plant

• Which trees grow significantly quicker in Equatorial regions.

• How we ensure the sustainability of the saplings.

• What the minimal irrigation level requirements are

• What soil constituency is optimal for successful tree growth

In partnership with the local community, we have successfully planted 5000 trees for 25 different species.

How does it work?

We are actively working with NHS Suppliers to support this project. Suppliers can then actively offset their carbon footprint through the purchase of trees at £1 / tree. All of this money is spent on the local community with £0.25 / tree going to the schools who propagate the seeds as part of a local ecology education programme. The funding is used for education, nutrition (vegetarian) and solar electricity. £0.50 goes to the establishment of sustainable environmental medical clinics that double up as tree nurseries. £0.25 goes to the community in planting and supporting the tree programme.

We have started with a large-scale tree planting project in Kikavu, Northern Tanzania in partnership with the local Community. Trees will grow significantly quicker in Equatorial regions due to increased sunlight. This is further enhanced by the fertility of volcanic soil and in regions with natural irrigation.

What Sets Us Apart

  • All of our Charity Trustees work for the NHS.

  • 100% of the funding goes front line. The charity takes no funding out for administration.

  • We only grow indigenous trees. Reducing the chances of disease and maximising beneficial impact on local ecology.

  • We only operate in regions of extreme poverty.

  • We only use local community workers helping reduce poverty.

  • We support people of all backgrounds, religions and cultures.

  • We support the local schools educating them on the importance of environmental projects.

  • We work with the local healthcare centres.

  • All our trees are tracked and validated on a quarterly basis.

  • We work with the local forestry commission in a region where the trees are protected.
